Greek riot police and protesters clashed in central Athens as demonstrators tried to cut down a statue of former U.S. leader Harry S. Truman.

As the protest over Syrian airstrikes grew spilled over into violence, police and demonstrators can been seen trading blows. At one moment an officer falls to the ground and is kicked and punched by two protesters.

Police can also be seen striking demonstrators with batons. Some protesters then flee into traffic to escape. The crowd also scatters as tear gas is fired by police.

Funeral of former Greek PM Konstantinos Mitsotakis

The funeral procession of former Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis, who passed away on Monday, is under way at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral. The family of the late Prime Minister received the casket, which was draped in the Greek flag, at the Cathedral today at 7am, where it will remain from 1.30pm, according to the programme for the Greek public to show their respects and bid the final farewell.

8 yrs Anniversary of A. Grigoropoulos

The 2008 Greek riots started on 6 December 2008, when Alexandros Grigoropoulos, a 15-year-old Greek student, was killed by two special officers in Exarcheia district of central Athens  .

Ομάδες αντιεξουσιαστών πετούσαν βόμβες μολότοφ και φωτοβολίδες εναντίον των αστυνομικών δυνάμεων ενώ, αυξήθηκαν τα οδοφράγματα που έχουν στήσει στην περιοχή. Τα ΜΑΤ «απάντησαν» με περιορισμένη χρήση χημικών και χειροβομβίδες κρότου λάμψης.
